Authenticity in an AI World: Can You Tell The Difference?

The world we live in has changed. Technology continues to impact our lives, mostly for the better but there will always be winners and losers.

Even as I write this post, these advances are everywhere. But some things will never change despite all the progress.

𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 “𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞” 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞.

People buy from people they trust, someone they’ve built a relationship with, whether in person or on a conference call.

It got me thinking. Traditional networking, whether in person or virtual, still has a place, an opportunity to use your human qualities and to practice the art of real human interaction.

It’s where you can be yourself. There’s no pretence. There’s no suggestion you are representing yourself through AI. It’s just you and the other person.

Then I thought about the multiple references on LinkedIn regarding comments and posts being AI generated.

AI has a place; it is here to stay and we need to adapt accordingly, but responsibly.

As a NED for Obelisk AI, I see firsthand the value of a well-crafted AI and automation suite, and how it can strengthen business processes. The impact on staff productivity and client value is transformative.

So, back to linkedIn. A well-written LinkedIn comment or post doesn’t automatically mean it was AI-generated.

Recently, I decided to run a simple test.

I took some content I produced with my own hand and ran it through an AI content checker. 𝐈𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 30% 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭.

𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞. Does that make me an AI agent? Have I been brainwashed by reading too much AI generated content? Who knows.

Here’s the reality, we live in a world where the line between authentic and fake is now very blurred.

• Images can be generated to look authentic
• Videos can be produced to show animals playing instruments
• Audio can be generated showing a person saying anything

We can fight AI, or we can adapt to use it to enhance our human capacity, not replace our ability to think.

That’s what makes us human and what gives us the upper hand.

So, here’s my simple observation.
